Led by Rachel Ohane, Liberate Pelvic Health addresses the profound impact of pelvic floor dysfunction on mental health, emphasizing its potential contribution to social isolation, decreased functioning in daily activities, chronic pain, and changes in body satisfaction, particularly following pregnancy. As a pelvic floor specialist, eating disorder specialist, social justice researcher, and woman of color, Rachel is uniquely positioned to raise awareness about pelvic floor dysfunction and eating disorders within the Black birthing community. This holistic approach aims to improve understanding of these issues, addressing mental health challenges and fostering a sense of self-efficacy, mood, and interpersonal relationships.
The Straker's Kitchen introduces the "NourishMental" project to address mental health disparities among Black birthing individuals in Colorado. This initiative focuses on postpartum continuity and nutrition, aiming to provide healthy meals for mental and emotional well-being during the perinatal period and 365 days postpartum. NourishMental integrates nutritional support with tailored mental health initiatives, encompassing education, workshops, meal planning, and culturally relevant nutritional support to meet the mental health needs of Black birthing individuals comprehensively.
Peace Protected Birth offers enhanced services in addition to home, birth center, and hospital birth doula support. Addressing two key areas, Childbirth Education and Photography, the initiative offers childbirth education as an automatic inclusion for first-time moms, recognizing the dissatisfaction and barriers faced by Black birthing clients in accessing such education. This approach is driven by the belief that informed birthing individuals can better advocate for themselves and trust their bodies during labor. Additionally, Peace Protected Birth provides discounted birth photography services to contribute to the representation of joy in Black birthing experiences, showcasing the beauty of labor and delivery beyond the prevailing focus on maternal health disparities.
Compassionate Counseling of Denver seeks to enhance Black maternal mental health in Colorado through holistic care, combining social, emotional, spiritual, educational, and artistic practices. CCD's goal is to provide comprehensive support for Black birthing individuals, fostering overall well-being through a multi-faceted approach.
